Exact language of said amendment(s) will be prepared for the council to review at a future meeting.

Fr. Taillon reported that the church had a great Holy Week turnout and praised the Decorating Committee for making the churches look so beautiful on Easter Sunday. He emphasized the amount of work that goes into making Holy Week run smoothly and thanked all who attended and participated.

Fr. Taillon thanked Fr. Fisette for his service and indicated that Fr. Fisette will be leaving on July 1 for a job with the Diocese as vocation director. He discussed the survey results, in which 300 parishioners provided feedback on parish life. He indicated that respondents asked for Catechism for adults and youth programs. HE INDICATED THAT HE WAS VERY WORRIED ABOUT THE HEALTHCARE MANDATE AND WAS PLANNING A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE ISSUE. He described the mandate as the biggest attack on the Catholic Church in U.S. history. He also discussed the upcoming video series on the faith.

The council unanimously elected Matt Mannix council secretary.

  • McDonald informed the council that the St. Thomas More Parish Festival will be held on June 30. She mentioned that she had begun the process of obtaining donations from sponsors and others and indicated that the subcommittees will need chairs. He emphasized the importance of the procession, especially in light of it being held on the 4th of July weekend this year, which will guarantee increased exposure. He indicated a luncheon will be held at the Dunes Club in honor of Msgr. Halloran, but the guest list will be limited.
  • Fr. Taillon also emphasized the distinction between the Parish Feast and Parish Festival. The “Feast” refers to the entire weekend. The “Festival” refers to the event on Saturday afternoon in town which is the party that is associated with the event. Finally, he indicated that there will be no recipient of the St. Thomas More award this year because of the festivities surrounding Msgr. Halloran’s 50th anniversary of his ordination.
